Mission
How the Foundation helps the industry
The Foundation is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable, scientific or educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
- Financial assistance (scholarships) to students healthcare IT related fields
- Providing access to students to the Dorenfest Institute database
- Providing financial relief / assistance for special need based programs issues

Governance Council
Who are they?
- The Council is organized and governed by the articles set forth in the Foundation bylaws.
- Council governs and manages the affairs of the Corporation and controls all property there of.
- Council consists of 5 voting and 1 non-voting member
- Non-voting member is the president/CEO of HIMSS
- 2 voting members serve concurrently on HIMSS Board of Directors
- 3 voting members are “at-large”
- Other eligibility requirements for Council members

Must be current member and Fellow of HIMSS
- At-Large members cannot be serving in any other HIMSS leadership role nor have served on the HIMSS Board within one year of appointment start date

- Sole member of the Foundation is HIMSS (represented in all matters by the HIMSS Board of Directors)
Committees
Governed under Article V of the Foundation bylaws
Scholarship Committee
- Promotes the scholarship program
- Reviews and selects scholarship winners
- Consists of 14 members each serving 2 year terms
Fundraising Committee
Purpose
- Plans and develops strategies and tactics to raise funds for the Foundation
Goals
- committed to raising $29,000 in 05 / 06 fiscal year with some direct solicitation through:
- Annual Conference and Exhibition
- Direct contact with potential donors

- Consists of two representatives from the following groups each serving 2-year terms:
- HIMSS Fellows
- HIMSS Chapter leaders
- Past-HIMSS Board Members
- Lifetime Members
- At-Large Members
Previous activities
- AC Events
- 1999 and 2000 – Silent Auction
- 2000 – Putt-putt golf course
- 2001 – Carnival games
- 2002 and beyond – Ribbon campaign
- Most successful activity – Silent Auction and putt-putt golf. However, both events were extremely labor intensive and subsequent years proved difficult in gaining vendor support

- Second year brought in approximately $5,000 per $700 spent

- Goal: $6000
- Minimum donation: $5.00

- 2006 prizes (one package awarded per day)

The force of Katrina continues to impact medical practices confronting daily challenges of patient care in a ravaged environment. HIMSS Katrina Phoenix reconstitutes devastated Gulf Coast practices with loss-preventive and paper-independent IT infrastructures.
