Renewal Application
Renewal candidates should begin the process by completing the renewal application .  The application will also provide detailed instructions on how to renew your credential and explain the types of activities can be used for renewal and how to calculate contact hours.

CPHIMS Renewal Requirements
The renewal cycle for the CPHIMS credential is three years, with expiration on the last day of the month in which certification expires. Renewal may be achieved either through participation in HIMSS or HIMSS-approved continuing professional education activities or through retaking and passing the CPHIMS examination. Renewing through Continuing education activities
To renew through continuing professional education, a certificant must:

• Demonstrate completion of 45 contact hours of continuing professional education in
information and management systems, with a minimum of 25 contact hours from HIMSS
or HIMSS-approved continuing professional activities*
• Adhere to Professional Standards of Conduct, as outlined in the CPHIMS Candidate
Handbook
• Pay the renewal fee of $100 for a HIMSS member or $175 for a non-member
• All continuing education must be obtained during your three-year certification period
* Any continuing education activity that satisfies a content category described in this application can be submitted to earn contact hours. Simply attach a copy of the program and proof of attendance/completion.

Renewing through Re-Examination:
To renew through re-examination, a certificant must:
• Pass the Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems
examination within one year prior to expiration of certification (subject to usual fees and
provisions for testing)
• Adhere to Professional Standards of Conduct, as outlined in the CPHIMS Candidate
Handbook

A certificant who fails to renew certification by the expiration date is no longer considered certified and must relinquish his/her certificate and cease using the certification credential. A certificant who fails to renew before the expiration date may regain certification only through re-examination.
